Shelby's got Soul

Dear Broady, lamenting over a costume for her Lab, reminded me of another delimma to owning Great Danes. Those "Large" pet costumes aren't exactly made to fit an 140 lb. dog that stands taller than me when on it's hind legs. ("Sit horsie. SIT.")

New Orleans has this great tradition--a dog parade at Mardi Gras called "The Mystic Krewe of Barkus." Each year there is a different theme and you dress your dog accordingly. The last time we were in attendance, the theme was "Saturday Bite Fever." Our Great Dane Shelby could handle the sequined sweatbands adorning each paw, but the afro was a little hard to keep on her head...

I'd love to dress up Shelby and Bella this year, but I'm at a loss for ideas. Send in your costume ideas and I'll post the winning entry. Thanks in advance and Happy Howl-o-ween!

xoxo,
Leigh

T suggested a saddle for the Danes. Simple, but it just may work!

This might be a bit dark but they should make a headband or neckband with two (hopefully little) fake dog heads. Then any dog can turn into Cerberus.

So, what did you choose??

I caught a nasty cold/bronchitis, so Shelby stayed at Grandma's and Bella got to be disco pup this year (afro and glitter sweatbands) to greet the trick or treaters. Lame, I admit, but I was ill and needed something easy.

Did your pooch find a swank costume in time?
