William Stader
5 lbs., 4 oz., 19 inches long
-
He came a month early and has some skeletal issues, but he's alive and precious with ten itty bitty fingers and ten teeny weeny toes.
-
Sadly (not really) he's been stuck with one of our onerous family names. He joins his big brother Beck (short for Beckham--family name, not the soccer star you tool) and he'll be called Stader (his middle name), which was originally a last name and has been used by generations of men in my family. It's pronounced STAY-der.
-
I love the tradition of it all, but I cringe at the comments he will get in elementary school and thereafter. I know. I've been there. Leigh (pronounced LEE) is actually just part of my real name-I don't have a legal middle name; and no, I won't tell you what it is. Let's just say, in lovely Southern fashion, that I am named after my grandmother, who was named after her grandmother, who was named after her grandmother, and so on and so forth. And all were originally last names, keeping us off the "Top Ten Baby Names" list for 200 years and counting.
-
I am obviously a little bitty bit bitter and I digress.
-
Anyway, this merits a trip down South to welcome the newest member of the family and to thank my brother and sister-in-law for continuing to take the pressure off me (you should see my parents and parents-in-law's watchful, waiting gazes...cringe worthy. No pressure there...Helll-o.).

So get out the cocktail shaker and call me Auntie Mame!

Happy Thursday everyone!

congrats auntie! He's precious!
He's a cutie.
Although my name isn't from some long lost relative, the whole "Leigh" spelling has always been an issue no matter there I go. Everyone wants to pronounce it "Lay". Once I was out of school I started adding on "Ann" and finally, everyone gets it.
Leigh Ann
Congratulations on your new little nephew!
What a cute baby! Congrats on being an Auntie again!
And as a person with a strange name my apologies on saying "Lay" when it's "Lee" --- it might be especially tricky for us non-southerners (though I'm not entirely sure about that). Though it is Vivien "Lee" --- hmm, perhaps I'll make a mental note of the wonderful Streetcar actress to pronouce it "Lee" as a default instead of "Lay".
Thanks All! Now if only I could find the time to go visit!
"Auntie Leigh" has become very adept at sending baby care packages...
xoxo, L
