Entertainment Weekly's Top 25 of 2005

So it took them six months into 2006 to come up with this list, but as a busy attorney, I've got very little time to make it to the theater (mmmm...overpriced popcorn and icees...), so I'm about right on schedule. Here is Entertainment Weekly's Top 25 Movie Must List for 2005...and my two cents, whether I've seen the flick or not!

(1.) Brokeback Mountain -want to see but can't convince T to see a movie about gay cowboys. Have to wait until he goes out of town again to watch it on pay-per-view.

(2.) Good Night, and Good Luck. -Only heard good things. One to rent.

(3.) Crash -kinky. will catch it on HBO.

(4.) Capote -On my to see list. Love that freaky little gay man. He wrote "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and starred in "Murder by Death"--what's not to love?

(5.) Munich -On my to see list.

(6.) Walk the Line -As T loves Johnny Cash may actually get him to rent this one. Be interested just to hear Reese sing...

(7.) Cinderella Man -Currently on HBO. Long and depressing. Soooo over Russell Crowe.

(8.) Syriana -Fat George Clooney is better than no George Clooney.

(9.) A History of Violence -On my to see list after V's great review.

(10.) The Constant Gardner -On my to see list. Love Ralph Fiennes, but looked a little like a new version of "The English Patient."

(11.) Transamerica -Men who want to be women. Why? Someone explain. Sure Felicity Huffman gives a great performance though.

(12.) North Country -Don't care if Cherise wins an Oscar. Too depressing for my real life right now.

(13.) Memoirs of a Geisha -May rent it but will it ever be as good as the book?

(14.) Pride & Prejudice -Loved it almost as much as the BBC version (mmmm...Colin Firth...yummy).

(15.) Match Point -Not always a Woody Allen fan, but this wasn't bad. Love Scarlett Johansen and Jonathan Rys-Meyers is so good at being a bad boy.

(16.) Mrs. Henderson Presents -Sure to be good with Dame Judi Dench. She never disappoints.

(17.) King Kong -Too much money spent, too little plot, too sad an ending.

(18.) Hustle & Flow -Only heard good things about this. On my to see list.

(19.) The Squid and the Whale -Great family film. No "March of the Penguins" but good none-the-less.

(20.) Junebug -Looks quirky and cool. Definitely on the to see list.

(21.) The Upside of Anger -A tad depressing but rather amusing. Kevin Costner plays a good drunk.

(22.) The 40 Year Old Virgin -A few awkwardly funny moments, but I think I heard too much hype before I saw it. Ending too corny, even for me (this is difficult people).

(23.) Cache' -It's got subtitles. I'll never convince T to watch it. He'd rather have kidney surgery. Ha. Ha.

(24.) Shopgirl -Adorable novella. Steve Martin is multi-talented. Interested to see it translated to film.

(25.) The Chronicles of Narnia -I'm one of the few people I know who haven't read this series. Would like to read the books first...

Okay, if I'm full of maird, let me know. If you have a recommendation or an "OH GAWD--DON"T SEE IT, IT'S CRAP" review, pass it on. I'd love to hear what y'all recommend...happy movie night.

xoxo,
Leigh

A History of Violence-- very good movie. I learned a valuable lesson about having sex on wooden stairs: don't do it unless it's with Viggo Mortensen.

Everyone think's I'm insane....but I never like Clooney unless he's doing comedy. He has brilliant timing. He bores me in everything else.

I think you work too much. Why have I seen pretty much ALL of those movies and your list to see is so extensive? Or maybe it's that I need to spend a little less time on the couch solo with a bowl of popcorn and more out socializing...

Transamerica- I was surprised at how good it was.

Narnia- hated it. I'd suggest reading the books and skipping the movie all together

Walk the Line- such a great movie.

Cinderella Man is a great movie. It's not depressing at all, it's a feel-good movie and very life reaffirming. Russell Crowe was excellent in it as the boxer James Braddock. Give it a try, you'll be surprised.

I have to see a bunch of these flicks as well.

The most recent film I saw was SLEEPY HOLLOW on the cable tele. Highly recommend it if you have yet to catch it as well.

Hope all is well Leigh, have a good one!
